The Earth in our hands
You carry the Earth like it’s the Olympic torch
It burns brightly but cautiously
You move slow for fear of dropping it
You observe people
They’re sullen looking down
At their dopamine dispensers
Down at their feet, eyes averted
Aloof and I’m afraid it’s true, we’ve lost our way
But look at me, do you see?
It’s not too late
Creativity still lies in us
Music is our secret weapon
Our common denominator
I too no longer recognize things
I thought I knew
I reach for them but they crumble like fractals, dissipated
I’m untethered, adrift
And yet
I recognize the ocean, the saltwater that swallows me
I recognize the mountains, the sun cascading down them
The deserts, the beaches, the forests
The animals that coexist within
So should we dare to conspire
And play the same song
Let our melody speak truth
Open the floodgates of their dormant hearts
And let them wake up
Help them remember there’s a world worth saving
The Earth in our hands
poetry
nature
music
